A full-service financial cooperative with twelve branches across the state of Vermont.
802 Credit Union was established in 2020 when two Vermont credit unions, Members Advantage Community Credit Union and River Valley Credit Union, joined together. Since its inception, 802 Credit Union continued to grow, adding White River Credit Union to the fold in 2025 in order to further expand its reach. Now, 802 Credit Union has twelve local branches and serves 41,000 members across the state of Vermont and part of New Hampshire, and offers members a complete array of banking and lending solutions including checking and savings accounts, personal loans, credit cards, auto loans, home equity loans, and mortgages.

The Challenge
802 Credit Union came to us with a website that wasn’t supporting their members – or their internal team. Navigating the site was difficult, with a messy URL structure and a lack of internal linking that undermined both user experience and SEO performance. Key information was also buried across the site, and there were no clear paths guiding users toward opening an account or applying for a loan – and when users did convert, it was not fully trackable. This in turn created unnecessary pressure on their call center, as well as limited 802 Credit Union’s ability to build trust in a highly competitive local banking landscape. The visual design of the website also lacked the Vermont identity and cooperative personality that define the credit union, making the experience feel corporate and disconnected from the local community. At the same time, their internal team struggled with rigid templates and limited editing capabilities, forcing them to rely on developers for even simple content updates.
Our Approach
Our approach focused on turning 802 Credit Union’s pain points into clear, actionable goals. We redesigned user journeys with intuitive navigation, clearer conversion paths, and prominently placed, easy-to-complete forms. We also added custom tools, including loan and account selectors, rate tables, and financial calculators, to support decision-making and improve overall usability. To strengthen trust and authority, we refreshed the visual identity with imagery rooted in Vermont’s community values, guided by insights from Placer.ai to ensure it resonated with both new and long-time members. Behind the scenes, we restructured the sitemap for SEO, improved internal linking, and brought the site up to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. Finally, we equipped the 802 Credit Union team with a flexible, modular editing system in WordPress that allows them to manage content confidently and independently – complete with change history tracking to meet strict credit union regulatory needs.
