Come each spring in Vermont, I eagerly anticipate two events. The first is a Nor’easter, although these days the probability of us getting one is getting slimmer and slimmer. These off-the-coast storms bring loads of heavy snow, graciously extending our ski and ride season another few weeks, maybe longer if we’re lucky. One piece of advice I am thankful I took to heart when I first moved to Vermont almost twenty years ago was to find an outdoor, cold-weather activity I loved. This would help me better endure the long winters of Vermont. Nothing could have been truer. . .

The second event I look forward to is the Lake Champlain Chamber’s Annual Dinner, especially in our post-COVID era. I still work mostly remotely and live at the end of a long dirt road in Jericho. My “coworkers” are two cats and two dogs and several days may pass before I even leave the confines of my property. Let’s just say I don’t get out much. So! The Chamber dinner is one of the yearly opportunities for me to wear real-person clothes and mingle with my human coworkers and the local business community, many of whom are our clients.

Winning 2024 Business of the Year

This spring didn’t disappoint! I got both my Nor’Easter and a night out at the 113th Annual Chamber Celebration. On top of the almost 16″ of snow we received in Jericho and the return of the Chamber event to the Hotel Champlain in Burlington, Bytes.co won 2024 Business of the Year, an award our team accepted with gratitude.

The Business of the Year award from the Lake Champlain Chamber recognizes a Vermont company that has exhibited expansion in its workforce, output, and overall functioning, coupled with a notable track record of accomplishments. This business must positively contribute to the Lake Champlain area’s social and economic welfare, and must have demonstrated remarkable progress, notable innovation achievements, and a strong commitment to community engagement by investing time and resources.

It was such a rewarding experience to receive this kind of recognition from an amazing community of local businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits. We know how hard Vermonters work, demonstrating resilience, dedication, and heart in all they do. We couldn’t have been more honored to receive this award from our business community and to hear the support from our cheering clients as we took the stage that night.

An Evening to Remember

A few other memorable highlights from the evening: Lilly and I had our caricatures drawn by a local artist, Joe Ferris. Last year, Sarah and Abby had theirs drawn too, so we get to add to the collection!

Lilly also won CBD dog treats in the raffle. Score! Her dog Jane will love these I’m sure!

From 2 in 2010 to 25 in 2024

Bytes.co has come a long way from its humble beginnings of a two-man operation building websites out of our CEO Jay Di Vece’s garage. Almost fifteen years later, Bytes.co has grown into a full-service website design and digital marketing agency of 25 employees. Although the majority of our clients today remain Vermont based organizations, with many of these local to the Lake Champlain Region, in the last 10 years our client base has expanded both nationally and internationally, with one of our newest clients based in South Korea.

Furthermore, in recent years both our website development and digital marketing work have been recognized through accolades such as the Davey Awards, the w3 Awards, the Netty Awards, and most recently the AVA Digital Awards. These honors underscore our innovation, work ethic, and versatility in driving results for a diverse range of clients across various industries.

I joined the team in November 2015, growing with the company year over year, always feeling honored to be a part of such an amazing group of talented, thoughtful, and fun people. Here’s to Bytes.co and another year of doing what we love!
