What is WordPress Accessibility Day?

WordPress Accessibility Day 2022 is almost upon us! A global, non-profit event, WordPress Accessibility Day lasts 24 hours in total, and is actually free to attend. Originally created by the WordPress Accessibility Team back in 2020, its goal is to spread awareness of accessibility best practices for WordPress websites and to educate the world on the importance of digital accessibility.

What to Expect at WordPress Accessibility Day 2022

This year’s event will start on November 2nd and run through November 3rd, 2022. Admission is free, making it easy for anyone – not just WordPress designers, developers, and content creators – to attend. On the schedule for the day are 32 presentations and panels from speakers around the world, starting with opening remarks at 10:45 am EST from Joe Dolson, the co-lead organizer of WordPress Accessibility Day 2022. Presentations will cover everything from accessible design and coding to how to sell website accessibility services to clients. Live captions will be provided, as will American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation to ensure that the presentations are accessible to all viewers.

How to Participate in WordPress Accessibility Day 2022

If you’re interested in WordPress Accessibility Day 2022, all you need to do is register through the official website – as we previously mentioned, it’s free for anyone to attend! Whether you attend one session or all of them, this event is an excellent opportunity for everyone to educate themselves on accessibility best practices for WordPress websites and why website accessibility is important. If you are unable to attend, also consider donating, as WordPress Accessibility Day 2022 is a completely volunteer-led event, with the majority of funds raised being put towards accessibility services.

As a digital agency, we’re proud to say that we offer website accessibility services, and that our website development team contains four IAAP WAS certified developers. In order to stay at the forefront of industry best practices, multiple members of our team will be attending WordPress Accessibility Day 2022. At this event, we look forward to learning new techniques from experts in the field, as well as actively engaging with other professionals working towards making online environments more accessible for all users. With our passion for improving online accessibility at the core of everything we do, we know that this event will help us better serve our clients and continue to deliver WordPress websites that are both beautiful and accessible.
